What are the Halos?

Well I am, Adrienne Grierson, I make music music and love film, particularly documentaries rockumentaries and mockumentaries.

I love doing reportage, and any TV show that involves cleaning houses, getting overweight and depressed people fit and happy, the whole makover and surprise element of anything is fairly entertaining to me. I confess I use to love Cilla Black's 'Surprise Surprise'. Also love the weird, wonderful, mystical and a firm believer in the unbelievable.

These are all my different halos, music halos, art halos, poetry halos, indigenous halos and dog halos, music and film halos. Not so much angelic as little concentric circles around my orbit.

Australian, New Zealand by birth, I have lived in London or NYC for many years, work in Brazil with a psychic surgeon, John of God, no really!, and speak some Portuguese.

Currently: 2008

I am studying for an MA in Screen Documentary at Goldsmiths College in London. I am working on my final project that will take me to the Vale do Amanhecer, The Valley of Dawn a colourful and fascinating Spiritist Community in Brazil. www.valleyofdawn.tv.

Editing the Fulni-o Indian footage into a short film, they alas, did not make it to San Fransisco but we have a very lovely film about their life in Aguas Belas, in the NE of Brazil.

History

2007:
Classes in Improv 201 and 301 at the Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC.

2006:
Took classes in Improv 101 at the Upright Citizens Brigade in Chelsea in NY. I loved it, and think the UCB houses geniuses. I was not one of them, but it was great fun.

I have continued to videoblog my way around the world and went to the New School University in NYC for summer school in Documentary Production. A 10 minute film about Aldo Perez was the result, a great NY comedian, performer and musician. You can see this on the videoblog page.

 

2005:
Went with Jeffrey Chu to start filming the Fulni-o documentary in Brazil.
Produced and sung with Aristides on O Fim and Voce Desprezou.
Made the music video for O Fim.
Filmed Looking for Carlos, the seven minute Fulni-o film asking Carlos Santana to play with the Indians in San Francisco in May 2006.

Provided footage for two ABC US Primetime specials about the healer John of God. (see the clients page).
2004:
Recorded Back to School in Sydney and filmed the video in New York.
Produced two songs, Tudo començou and Tedoya with Fulni-o tribe members Terminio, Bolo, Daya and Aristides.
2003:
Songs: John Cooper Clarkes poem 'I wanna be yours'. It was a joy to use such delightful lyrics from a master of poetry.
Also Jungle Fever, 24,and Just the Sea.
Worked with rapper Skelly from Oregon on Kiss the Wind.
I met 21 year old Skelly in Brazil. He has developed a mystical rap that I found very appealing.
All these recorded by myself with sophisticated home studio equipment that I love but baffles me.
Note I said the equipment was sophisticated.
2002:
Music for artist Deej Fabyc's film Anorexia which was shown at the 5 years gallery in London.
It documents a woman being stalked through the streets of Amsterdam.
Music for Eytan Vanutu short film Reset. Classic tale of parental oppression stifling creativity.
The Dog Thief and The Bouncing Dog films are my Dogumentaries.
2001:
Songs: Pray, Praise and Monomania with other musicians.
Thanks to:Ben Thirkettle-guitar,Marciano Murgo-Keyboards, Yan Quellian-Drums,Alejandro Paredes-Bass, Shona-Violin.
Praise was used in the Christian Jimenz short film Shoot me Please.
This showed the problemns and difficulties of shooting footage in the London Underground, without authorized permission, whilst always being aware that there are in fact cameras watching us everywhere in the environment.
